An original painting showing Rock House from Old Calton Cemetery. The painting plays with representations of the house and its history. In the 17th century quodlibet painters used a highly realistic approach to still life painting as a way to explore questions of history and truth. Working with that same approach, this painting is an illusionistic work giving the appearance of photographs, papers, calotype and sketches collaged together yet the painting is a trick of the eye. A painterly illusion.
